A man in his 40s is being charged with attempted murder of two random women, after a woman in her 20s was stabbed in Oslo late Saturday night.
The incident took place at Birkelunden on Grünerløkka.
“He is charged with attempted murder of two people and they are two women who were walking together,” says the man’s defender, lawyer Øystein Storrvik, to VG.
He acknowledges having stabbed one of the women with a knife.
“He is acknowledging the incident, but does not acknowledge punishment,” says Storrvik to TV 2.
The accused will be presented for detention in Oslo District Court on Monday. The man holds dual citizenship and is according to the defender, from Portugal and Canada. He is currently living in Oslo lately.
“Now we are going to review the case, but a judicial observation is of course something we have considered and will consider more closely now after questioning,” says prosecutor Rita Parnas in Oslo police district to VG.
Stabbed in the abdominal region
One of the woman was injured and is hospitalized after being stabbed in the abdominal region, while walking on the street at Birkelunden, not far from St Paul’s church. According to police, she was a random victim.
“They were walking towards each other when the man attacked unprovoked,” says Operations Manager Tore Solberg in the Oslo Police District to NTB.
The police were alerted by the woman herself at 03:11 in the morning Sunday.
Out of danger
“She gave the police a description of the perpetrator and told them in which direction he left the place. It led to an arrest of a man in his mid-40s just minutes later,” says Solberg.
The man still had the knife, he used to stab his victim, on his person when he was apprehended.
The woman underwent surgery for her injuries at Ullevål hospital and her condition is stable, informs the operation manager and adds that there is nothing to indicate that there is a danger to her life.
