From the summer of 2019 to two jet aircraft will be made a part of the Norwegian air ambulance service. The goal is better preparedness and  increased safety for patients.

Jets are faster, have greater range, can hold more cargo and have more space for passengers and equipment than the ambulance aircraft that are currently in use.
To introduce jet planes into the air ambulance service is a quantum leap that will improve the emergency response for Svalbard and provide increased patient safety throughout the country. It will strengthens the state of readiness for disasters nationally and  the ability to solve missions overseas, the General Manager of the air ambulance service ANS, Øyvind Juell, says.
Jets and more use of the helicopter will mean  that the short track planes will be relieved so that they get more time to serve the small airports that are particularly prevalent in Finnmark. Five of the six ambulance plane in Northern Norway will still be propeller aircraft that can operate on short track airports.
