Nearly all the immigrants who took the Norwegian test in the introductory program last year, passed the test, according to figures P4 news received from Ministry of Justice.

84 percent of the candidates who took the test in the winter of 2015 managed elementary level or higher on the written test and 90 percent passed the oral test. This means the government have fulfilled their aims for 2015.
– The vast, vast majority have a strong desire to work in Norway, and they understand that in order to do a good job at the place where you work, you have to acquire language skills,  Andreas Furuseth in Norwegian Organization for Asylum Seekers (NOAS) says to P4.
The government will give municipalities the right to withhold financial support to immigrants who fail the Norwegian test in the introductory program.
– This will make the individual even more motivated to learn Norwegian. It will get more people to pull out all the stops and achieve good results,  Minister of Immigration and Integration  Sylvi Listhaug (FRP) NTB  said just before Easter.
NOAS do not think this is a good way to increase the immigrants’ knowledge of Norwegian.
– We are critical to the use of punitive measures in achieving this aim. If municipalities are to reduce payments to people who do not have the desired level of knowledge of Norwegian, we are afraid that it would rather hamper integration than promoting integration and language training, he says.
