Justice and Public Security Minister Anders Anundsen visited border controls in Oslo airport Wednesday to see passport queues with his own eyes.

Both SAS and Norwegian airlines believe the situation at the airport is inadequate and that it must be cleared up by border control. Many passengers have missed their planes because of the hour-long passport queues, according to the airlines. According to SAS around 100,000 passengers have been affected.

– Our staff at OSL have met many frustrated and highly stressed passengers. The situation is simply tragic, said Knut Morten Johansen information officer at SAS to NRK news.

Anundsen will also meet Police Chief Jon Steven Hasselgård of Romerike Police, who last Wednesday went out in the media and spoke about the staffing crisis at Gardermoen.

Sunday Anundsen responded that “it is the police commissioner’s responsibility to use the resources he has available in the best possible way.” He left 14 new positions on the board.

Police Director Odd Reidar Humlegård said to NRK that they are working on solutions.

– In the short term, we will handle this together with the police district.

In the long term we need a good dialogue, and we feel we have a good dialogue and understanding of the situation – both in the ministry, district and directorate, said Humlegård.
