A 26-year-old man has been presented for remand in Stavanger District Court second Pentecost, charged with fighting in a terrorist organization in Syria.

The 26-year-old was arrested Friday morning at a reception center in the district of South Rogaland,  the newspaper Rogaland Avis writes.

The Police Security Service (PST)has remanded the man in custody for four weeks after his arrest on Friday  and he will be charged according to the statutory provisions on terror in Section 147d of the old Penal Code. The provision is that a person may be punished with imprisonment of up to six years for having taken part in, recruited for or provided financial or material support to a terrorist organization.
– I can not comment on the indictment beyond this. PST chose to go  arrest the man after the court gave us a warrant to search his place,  police attorney Anne Karoline Staff said to the news agency NTB.

The man reportedly arrived in Norway last September. He allegedly had connections to the Nusra front, which is the strongest rebel group in Syria, apart from the rival Islamist group IS. The organization is affiliated with al-Qaeda network and is considered to be a terrorists organization by the UN and the US.
