An asylum seeker, who arrived at the border crossing from Russia at Storskog this Friday, was rejected to enter the country.

The man, who tried to cross the border by bicycle, was the first asylum seeker who came to Storskog in Sør-Varanger in almost ten months. Finnmark Police District of Immigration stated that the man’s asylum application was rejected, and the man was returned to Russia. The man is a Russian citizen.

Last fall around 5,500 asylum seekers came to Storskog in a very short period, trying to cross the border to Norway. After legislative changes, the establishment of new asylum procedures, and negotiations with Russia last year, the arrival of asylum seekers ended.
