Austria will expel 50,000 asylum seekers by 2019

Austria have made it their goal that 50,000 asylum seekers will be expelled over the next three years, according to a new plan from the country’s government.

The plan includes monetary incentives for people who leave voluntarily. The list of countries that are considered to be safe will be expanded, allowing more asylum seekers from the countries concerned to be expelled.

Authorities in Vienna announced in January that Austria would not admit more than 37,500 asylum seekers this year. Last year they admitted 90,000.

The extended list of safe countries will include Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Ghana, Georgia and Mongolia. All asylum applications from nationals from these countries should be treated quickly.
