The biggest beer seizures at Svinesund

Over the past two weeks, customs officers at Svinesund seized more than 70,000 liters of beer and 5,000 liters of liquor from three Polish trucks.

According to Sarpsborg Arbeiderblad, customs agents at the site have never seized this amount of alcohol in such a short period.

– This is a new record, confirms customs chief Wenche Fredriksen.

Two of the trailers were loaded with 24,000 liters of beer each, while the rest were seized from the third vehicle. Fredriksen said that the drivers were held for questioning by the police.

– The trailers arrived separately but within a period of two weeks, she said.
The merchandise of alcohol could have paid a duty of about six million Kroner.

On Tuesday night, another smuggler from Poland was apprehended at Svinesund. In the truck, 445 liters of beer, 51 liters of liquor and 4,600 cigarettes were found.

Beside this, an automobile worth of 20,000 kroner and additional cash of 38,000 kroner were seized. The driver of the car has a record for a similar wrongdoing earlier.
– The last time he was apprehended was in October 18th this year, said customs chief Wenche Fredriksen.
