Brende to visit Japan

Brende will go  to Japan this weekend and will be the first Norwegian foreign minister who is visiting the country for nine years. The issues on the agenda will include business cooperation and international trade.

The visit begins Sunday October 16 and will last until Wednesday. Japan is a key global player, the world’s third largest economy and an important trading partner for Norway,  the Foreign Ministry stresses.

The people who Brende will meet, include Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida, president Haruhiko Kuroda in the Bank of Japan and the Tokyo governor Yuriko Koike.

Industrial cooperation, key regional issues, international trade policy and common global challenges, are some of the issues which will be discussed.

– Japan is a very important partner for Norway, with common interests in many international issues.

Japan is also a key trading partner and an important market for Norway.

During the visit, I will discuss how we can further develop the cooperation with Japan in the fields of research and education, which is important for the necessary restructuring which both Japan and Norway are in the midst of,Brende says .

He will also go to Hiroshima to visit Memorial Park and meet survivors of atomic bomb attack on 6 August 1945.
