A plethora of famous Britons in the arts and culture have signed a letter in which they ask their compatriots to vote yes to the UK remaining in the EU.
Amongst the 282 who signed the letter which is being published in The Daily Telegraph on Friday, is Benedict Cumberbatch, Keira Knightley and Patrick Stewart.
– Britain is not only stronger in Europe, it is also more imaginative and more creative, and our global creative success will be seriously compromised if we go our own way, it is stated in the letter.
Other famous names who have signed are Danny Boyle, Carol Ann Duffy, Hilary Mantel, John le Carre, Vivienne Westwood, Helena Bonham Carter, Kristin Scott Thomas, Bill Nighy, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Dominic West.
But the conservative party member Michael Dobbs in the British House of Lords who helped Netflix series “House of Cards”, believes Britain’s strength in the arts is not due to the EU.
– Ancient Greece was the birthplace of our civilization, but because of the EU’s horrific policies the streets that were once filled with the world’s greatest philosophers and playwrights are stifled by desperate beggars and rotting garbage mountains. These are the realities of the EU. It fails. The dream is dead. Now we need to move on, he says.
