British passports without EU referral

British authorities have begun issuing new passports without the text “European Union” on the front page even though the country has not yet left the EU.

The British Interior Ministry said it had long since been decided that any passport issued from March 30, 2019, the day after the UK had left the EU, would no longer have reference to the Union.

This means that all Britons who have been granted a passport since March 30, now only have the text “United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland” on the front of the passport, while old passports also have the text “European Union” at the top cover.

But the passes still have the Burgundy brown covers. Only at the end of the year will new passports have a dark blue cover similar to what British passports had before the country became a member of the EU on January 1, 1973.

When the UK actually leaves the EU, nobody knows. Prime Minister Theresa May has asked the EU to postpone brexit until June 30. However, if that happens, it is highly unclear.
