Necessary access to broadband and mobile phone is as important as infrastructure for roads and railways, “said  the transport minister Ketil Solvik-Olsen

Electronic communications (ekom) is an essential part of our everyday lives. Now we have for the first time a public document that shows the direction for the development of our digital society and how we can ensure the development of the necessary infrastructures for computerized jobs in Norway, says Solvik-Olsen in connection with the presentation of the Government’s ICT policy on Friday.
The Ekom plan is part of the so-called digital agenda and it involves themes such as mobile and broadband coverage, robust ekomnett, market regulation, freedom of choice on the internet and security in ekomnett and services.
It should be profitable for the providers to invest in ecom. That will be easy for ekom customers, and we’re going to get new services at an affordable price. New persons in the market, new business models, new services, new technologies and new user habits require new and updated regulations, says Solvik-Olsen.
He says he goal is that, by 2020 90 percent of the Norwegian households should be able to have an offer for a data rate of at least 100 megabits per second. In the long term, the goal is that all households should have the offer of high speed broadband.
-There should be a good mobile coverage where people live, work and travel. This does not apply to at least for commuters on the train.
