A tagged sentence is perceived as a strict and demanding criminal sanctions, according to a new evaluation of the scheme. Now the authorities consider whether more people can serve their sentence in this way.

We ordered an evaluation to gain better knowledge and ensure a more accurate use of the scheme, says Minister for Justice Anders Anundsen .
The report from Vista Analysis shows that a tagged sentence is perceived as a strict and demanding criminal sanctions. The scheme has a positive effect against relapsing and is a good solution for the convicted person’s immediate family. The evaluation concludes that the scheme is economically profitable compared with imprisonment at a low security prison.
– I will now receive an evaluation of whether the implementation time can be extended and if more people will be able to serve in this way. Meanwhile, I would emphasize that it is very important to me that the scheme should not be an additional burden for the victims of crime, the Minister of Justice said in a statement.
Most who conducts their whole atonement as tagged, are convicted of crimes without specific victims, according to the department for Justice. The defendants serve sentences for such as driving under the influence, fraud or other financial crimes.
