A 38-year-old Canadian woman suffered serious injuries when she fell during ice climbing at Lyngen in Troms on Saturday morning.
She was flown by air ambulance to the University Hospital in Tromso from Rottenvikfossen where the accident occurred. The woman climbed with two others and has received several fractures.
– She is seriously injured, but the situation is stable and there is no question of life-threatening injuries. She is hospitalized to monitor her injuries, said press secretary Per-Christian Johansen at the hospital to NRK on Saturday afternoon.
Head of operations Roy Tore Meyer of Troms Police said the three had climbed 20 meters up in the waterfall, and they were on their way back down when 38-year-old probably lost her footing and fell.
– The woman must have dropped ten meters according to information we have received from others in the group.
We do not know exactly what has gone wrong, and we have not yet talked to the other two in the group. The two came from the incident unscathed, said Meyer.
The police were notified of the accident at 11:30am on Saturday. The ambulance helicopter arrived at the hospital at 1:15pm. The woman had been conscious when health workers arrived at the accident.
