Opening for chat between children with parents in prison
Every year, between 6,000 and 9,000 children in Norway have a mom or dad in prison. The Norwegian church’s office has now opened a chat channel where children can vent their thoughts.
On Wednesday next week, the Church’s City Mission (Kirkens Bymisjon) launches ifengsel.no, a chat channel for children and young people.
It is meant for the many thousands of children whose parents end up in jail every year. This is something known to affect children in many ways, but it is difficult to find answers.
“It often causes both guilt and embarrassment to have a mum or dad in jail or at home. Of children and adolescents, there are few, if any, who talk about this – and there are many questions without answers’’ the Church’s City Mission wrote.
The chat line will open next Wednesday from 3 pm. Initially, it will function on Wednesdays and Fridays until 22:00 in the evening. Also, friends of children who have a parent in jail can make contact if they have questions.
“Everyone has confidentiality and chat logs are deleted after 72 hours,” the City Mission wrote.
