In the beginning of next year TV viewers will see chess world champion Magnus Carlsen play a guest role in the animated series “The Simpsons”, newspaper VG reports.
According to the newspaper this was confirmed by screenwriter Al Jean during the annual Comic Con show in San Diego on Saturday.
– It’s an honor. They have iconic figures who do guest roles in The Simpsons series. The series is a kind of cultural “institution” in the world. Meanwhile, I do not want to say much more until I get more information from the producer, said Carlsen’s manager Espen Agdestein to VG.
Carlsen has already recorded the lines he plays. The episode will air sometime next year.
It is common place that celebrities make cameo appearances in “The Simpson”, which has aired on the TV screen since 1989. According to VG, among others Britney Spears, Michael Jackson and David Beckham have played a role in the series over the years.
– Simpsons is a series that hits many people, and this is an honor for Magnus. If you aim to make chess more popular in the world, this is a chance, says Agdestein.
Carlsen won before the weekend Masters tournament in Spanish Bilbao. He meets Sergey Karjakin in chess World Cup in the US in November.
