Children of immigrants are using less psychiatric care services

According to a survey result the children with immigrant parents are using less often the services from child and adolescent psychiatry (BUP than ethnic Norwegian children.

– These are things we have long believed in but now we can substantiate with figures, said researcher Dawit Shawel Abebe on welfare research institute NOVA from Oslo and Akershus University to forskning.no.

The figures are obtained from the Norwegian Patient Register and Statistics Norway and covers over 1.5 million people who are up to 29 years old.

It is children and young people from Poland, Bosnia, Somalia, Sri Lanka, Turkey, Pakistan, Iraq and Vietnam who use the services rarely with some exceptions.
Norwegian scientists have not previously seen the importance is the effect of children and young people’s background on usage of BUPs services.
