The Summer heat and record number of forest fires have kept civil defense busy with 28 percent more issues in July than in a normal year.

So far in 2018 there have been 1866 forest fires in the field of inland and on the coasts, which is several hundred more than in 2017, NRK writes.

Of the Civil Defense 102 missions in July, 86 were forest fires, alone. The average number of hours spent in recent years has been 42,000 hours for a full year for the Civil Defense unit, they have already worked 54,098 hours in July.

“I am proud and grateful for the efforts of our volunteer civil servants, the men and women, as well as our permanent civil servants in the Civil Defense, who have been involved with all of these forest fires this summer,” says Director Cecilie Daae in the Directorate for Social Security and Emergency Preparedness (DSB).

Most missions executed by the Civil Defense have been in Telemark and Buskerud, with 16 and 14 assignments respectively.
