Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos thanks Norway for its efforts to create peace in the country.

– I am glad for the opportunity to thank Prime Minister Solberg and Foreign Minister Brende on behalf of all the Colombian people, said Santos to Norwegian journalists in New York on Tuesday.

He spoke about Norway’s role after a meeting with Prime Minister Erna Solberg and Foreign Minister Brende in connection with the UN General Assembly.

Norway has contributed to the peace negotiations which have led to the government and the FARC guerrillas agreeing to sign a peace agreement at the beginning of next week.

– Norway has been a friend and supporter in this process from the very beginning.

We are very grateful for Norway’s help in resolving the recent conflict in South America, and the last armed conflict in the Western world, says Santos.

Erna Solberg is also pleased with the cooperation, which has led to the FARC guerrillas agreeing to submit their weapons within 180 days, according to the agreement.

– It is very nice, and we have been received with much gratitude for the work that our dealers have done to make this work. This demonstrates the professionalism of the work that has been done in Norway for peace talks, she said.
