Stine Kristiansen and Henrik Vridve from Drammen went to Nav to get a roof over their heads when they became homeless. Nav gave them a tent.
The problems began for the couple when they agreed to rent a room in an apartment to a friend in Drammen a month and a half ago. After living there a few weeks it became apparent that he was not as good a friend as they thought, and they were thrown out of the apartment on short notice, writes the Klassekampen.
Since they did not know any people in the city, the couple decided to seek help from Nav. Instead of housing assistance, Nav lent them a four-man tent and a sleep mat. They were told that it is not allowed to camp in one place for more than three days, but that no one was going to check.
They have been living this way for over two weeks while looking for a new place to live.
“We are looking at all types of the apartments, but it takes a lot of time to live this way and It does not help us to smell of fire when we go to the viewings,” says Kristiansen, who is still on convalescence leave after a hemorrhage on the brain from October.
Head of Nav Drammen, Katrine Christiansen points out that she has a duty to the privacy act, but says that there has been a failure in the routines. Furthermore, she tells Klassekampen that they will contact the couple to find a better solution.
