Under slogans like “Send the kids home now”  some hundred protesters gathered in front of the parliament on Saturday to show their opposition to child care.

Many of the protesters were themselves parents who had had their children taken away by child care authorities. Similar demonstrations were also to take place in nearly 60 cities in 20 countries, according to the organizers.
– We mobilized and assembled the people through social media,  Alf Magne Henriksen from group ” the child care  we want to end” informed the news agency NTB.
He does not want to disclose who the group has allied itself with the United States and several European countries, where demonstrations are also scheduled to take place.
– That’s secret. But this is not the end. We will not stop until the current child care system has been brought to an end, Henriksen says.

Attracted attention
One of the issues that lead to the demonstration, is the issue of a Norwegian-Rumanian couple, resident in Naustdal in Sogn og Fjordane, who last November had their five children taken away and were charged with domestic violence.
The case has attracted attention beyond Norway. In Rumania’s capital Bucharest   at least 7,000 demonstrated in support of the young couple on Saturday , and on the same day the British broadcaster BBC showed a critical documentary about the case.
