The police believe something criminal happened to the Vietnamese mother of two, Dung Tran Larsen, who has been missing since 2007. The case has now been sent to Kripos.

“We asked if they could take the case, and we had some initial meetings with them in Oslo” said police inspector, Tore Salvesen, of the Western Police District to Bergens Tidende newspaper.

As former head of the police in Bergen West, Salvesen has followed the disappearance case closely, and he assures us that the case is not forgotten. Prior to a new job as section leader at the Joint Unit for Intelligence and Investigation of the Western Police District, he ensured that the Dung case was sent for review by the Kripos cold case group.

For about six months, the group has worked actively to review the case again.

‘’This is by no means a game for the gallery. When they are finished, there are two possibilities. Either they will take over the case themselves, or they will send it back to us for further follow-up’’ said Salvesen without knowing how long the new review will take.

The 22-year-old mother disappeared without a trace from her home in Loddefjord in Bergen in 2007.

Her husband, mother-in-law, father-in-law and her brother-in-law were all charged with killing her, but in 2009 the case was dropped according to lack of evidence. The following year, her husband paid NOK 240,000 to Dung’s parents in Vietnam, but stressed that there was nothing behind the payment.
