Erik Solheim, the newly appointed head of the UN Environment Programme, praises Prime Minister Erna Solberg for the continued Norwegian commitment to the preservation of the rainforest.

During the opening of the large forest conference in Oslo on Tuesday, Solheim underlined how important it is that the Conservative Progress Party government has invested in the rainforest.
“Thank you, Erna!” said the former SV leader in his speech.

Solheim also highlighted the private sector’s role in efforts to preserve forests in tropical countries.
“I came from a political tradition that was suspicious of business,” he said, “But I have changed my view based on facts.”
Many of the world’s largest companies are currently ahead of politicians when it comes to the environment and sustainability, says Solheim. He highlighted food giants Unilever and Nestle as examples.
