“People in Eastern Norway and tourists may like to learn more about the aquaculture industry”, said Prime Minister Erna Solberg of Høyre (H). On Wednesday, she opened a salmon centre in a former sushi restaurant at Tjuvholmen in Oslo.

At the centre, visitors can see more about the salmon’s lifecycle and how a modern fish farm is run.

Besides, it is a restaurant where the main ingredient is, of course, salmon. The centre has been around since the fall and has received over 5,000 visitors.

“It is very nice that they have it here, where people have a longer distance from fish farming than they have along the coast. So it is is good that it is combined in a hip and cool packaging,” said Solberg to NTB news like a regular hepcat.

She said that she hears outdated statements about Norwegian salmon holdings, for example about antibiotic use, when she is abroad. Then she tells about how the fish are now being vaccinated.

At the same time, she is aware that the industry still needs to improve.

“You have to fight to get the industry as sustainable as possible and with the least possible diseases, ” she asserted.

The Directorate of Fisheries have granted the company, Lax Expo, a license to conduct information activities in this way in Oslo. Behind Lax Expo is the aquaculture company, Nova Sea, which is based in Helgeland.

Information about the Salmon centre is available here.
