Prime Minister Erna Solberg has said that her thoughts go to all those who lost family or colleagues in the helicopter accident in Hordaland.

– Our thoughts are with all those who have received the sad news that they have lost a loved one. They should know that they are not alone in their grief, said Solberg at a news conference on Friday afternoon.
– This is a sad day for all who work in the Norwegian oil and gas industry, and for the entire Norwegian society, she says.
She says that she has spoken with the Statoil management and expressed her sympathy. She also emphasized that the emergency services and and other resources arrived quickly to the site.

Tragic accident
– I would like to thank everyone who contributed. This looks like a tragic accident, and one of the biggest disasters in years. It is long time since such a serious accident has hit the Norwegian oil and gas industry, she says.
– People and security has been of the highest priority in the Norwegian oil and gas industry, and it remain so. We have one of the very safest production methods in the world says Solberg, but adds that one can never be 100 percent safe on any means of transport.

Pending AIBN
Now the government will wait for AIBN’s  findings. At this stage, Solberg sees no reason to take another initiative.
– It is important that they inspect the helicopters and ensure that there is no system fault that could affect other helicopters. If this reveals that the cause could have been prevented with more inspections and checks, then this will affect the regulations, says Solberg.
Erna Solberg will travel to Bergen tonight and will then consider whether she will visit the accident site and talk to the relatives.
