EU Agriculture Commissioner Phil Hogan believes discussions with Norway about the rules for organic farming has been going on long enough.
On Tuesday Hogan got a visit by Agriculture Minister Jon Georg Dale in Brussels.
He then asked Dale to draw up “a clear timetable” for the incorporation of the EU ecology regulations in Norwegian legislation, says the European Commission.
Eco rules was adopted eight years ago but has not yet been introduced in Norway. The reason is primarily that Norway wants an exemption from the prohibition in legislation against slatted, which is common in sheep shed in Norway.
After meeting with Dale makes Hogan clear that both parties should now step up efforts to find a solution.
A new meeting will be held in Oslo in October. According to Hogan, it should be a good opportunity to come forward with the proposed roadmap for introducing eco regulations in Norway.
He urges “a higher level of ambition” in their efforts to find mutually acceptable solutions.
