More than one in five vehicles, 198 in total, received a driving ban when the National Road Administration controlled heavy vehicles along the Swedish border in Hedmark and Østfold last week.

The controls took place at Magnor, in Trysil, and in Ørje.

920 heavy vehicles were checked. Most driving bans were given due to poor cargo securing, overload or poor or defective brakes.

There were also 35 reviews, most of them due to violations of driving and rest time or cargo securing.

‘’The fact that we stopped dangerous vehicles and tired drivers before they drive on Norwegian roads is a good thing. We found that there is a great need for controls on the border after these disappointing results. At Magnor in particular, which is the second largest border crossing in Norway, 20 gross violations were revealed that ended with notifications being given’’ said head of department, Geir Thomas Finstadof the Norwegian Public Roads Administration.

He said that some of the drivers who got a driving ban had agreed, while others had perceived the inspectors as too strict.
