Father abused family for 13 years – received three years in prison

A 45-year-old man is in Sor-Trondelag District Court sentenced to prison for three years for having abused his wife and five children over a period of 13 years.

The man was arrested last December after one of the daughters alerted police about a violent episode, writes newspaper Adresseavisen. He was detained but released in March, after about three months.
According to the verdict, the court finds it proven that the defendant regularly since 2002 “have turned their daughters in the face with both open hand and closed fist, whipped them with curtain ropes , beaten them with a belt, kicked them, pushed them, dragged them by the hair, spat them in the face, beaten them with a belt, piece of wood or other objects”.
The man came to Norway as an asylum seeker from a country in the Middle East in the late 90s. Some years later, his wife and three also moved to Norway. The couple later had two more children. The man is illiterate and have never worked in Norway.
The court also found it proveen that he also threatened her sons to kill them and locked them inside a room in the basement.
