The bad summer weather has meant that many beggars have traveled on from Bergen. Several of them have gone back to their homeland, according to the City Mission of the Church.
– The feedback we receive at the acute accommodation is that some of them have travelled on to other Norwegian cities, while others have returned to the country they come from, Sebastian Schwalbach in the Bergen division of the City Mission of the Church says to NRK. The organization offers simple and cheap accommodation for homeless.
In early July, police in Bergen observed a doubling in the number of beggars compared to last year, but by the end of July the number had leveled off.
– It is not surprising that they find somewhere else to go since we only had three or four days without rain, Deputy Police Comissioner at Western Police District, Olav Valland, said to the channel.
July was the wettest since 1970 in the “capital” of western Norway, with 263.7 millimeters of rain, compared to the normal amount of 148 millimeters.
