Less police boats this summer in southern Norway

Police boats in Kristiansand, Mandal, Risør and Arendal will not get permanent staffing this summer, due to limited financial resources.

‘It is a real shame. We need police on the lake in summer time. It is such an important place to be.  Even though most boat owners behave decent and drive carefully and thoughtfully, there will always be a few who will not behave properly. To give the right response, we need police boats on the water’, says Bård Austad , head of the Joint Operational Unit in Agder Police, to NRK.

During earlier summers, Agder Police made sure police boats had permanent staffing for eight weeks during summertime, but this year the economy will not allow it. The consequences of less police boats this summer will therefore be higher, with more drunken driving, greater risks of injury and more drownings.
