Cleaner streets are to provide better air in Oslo next winter

Transport Minister Ketil Solvik-Olsen thinks better cleaning of the road network in Oslo will increase air quality, and wants to initiate a pilot project for this in the winter.

– More effective and targeted cleaning and washing of roads in Oslo can help improve city air and lead to less particulate matter, the Transport Minister thinks-
The Ministry of Transport has asked the Public Roads Administration to prepare an experiment with enhanced cleaning of the road network in Oslo.
– The experiment can be implemented as of next winter. In this way, the experiment will also comprise the most critical months when it comes to road dust, according to a letter from the Ministry of Public Roads.
In the letter it is also stated that a cleaning experiment was conducted in Trondheim in April last year. The lessons learned from this experiment were good, and a new attempt is scheduled to be implemented in Trondheim during a week in May this year.
