No more warnings, from now on Statens Vegvesen will print fines to bus passengers who are not using safety belts.

– If you forget the belt it can cost you a 1,500 kroner ticket, wrote the Road Administration in a statement on Monday.

A total of 16,300 bus passengers were checked for belt use in the winter, one in four were found to be unsecured. According to Statens Vegvese nearly half  say they remember to use seatbelts in buses where they are fitted.

– The potential for damage to the bus is enormous if there were an accident. In a collision, there are strong forces set in motion. The belt keeps passengers in the seat. It can save lives, says Ingrid Heggebø Lutnæs of Statens Vegvesen.

There are several different bus types, and not everyone of them is entitled to a seatbelt system. Bus Types with no belts and with standing room are meant for lower speeds and with frequent entry and exit. The rules are similar throughout Europe.
