Fireman dies after extinguishing forest fire in Akershus

A firefighter died on Sunday at Ullevål Hospital after an accident while extinguishing a forest fire in Akershus.According to the fire department, the man had an acute health problem.

 

“The police can confirm that there was an accident yesterday in connection with the extinguishing of a forest fire in Nes in Akershus. It was a young man who participated in the extinguishing work where the accident took place,’’ said operations manager, Kari Monsen of the Eastern Police District to NTB news on Sunday night.

“Life-saving first aid was carried out on the spot, and he was taken to hospital, but they were unable to save him,” Monsen said.

The police do not want to say more about the course of events at this time.

“The police have conducted investigations on the spot and are investigating the case as an accident,” Monsen said.

It was VG newspaper who first reported the matter. The newspaper has been given access to a message sent to the staff of Øvre Romerike fire and rescue service. It said that the person concerned had an acute and serious health problem during the effort.

Fire Chief John Arne Karlsen told the newspaper that the man was alone when the accident occurred and that he was found lying on the ground in the fire area by others who were working at the spot.

“The whole incident seems to us to have been caused an acute health problem.This is our most important starting point,” said Karlsen.
