Former head of SOS Racism, Kjell Gunnar Larsen, and seven other former executives and employees of the SOS organization are sentenced to prison for comprehensive member cheating.

The prosecutor said he hopes that Norwegian clergy got their lesson from this judgment.

Larsen was in Haugaland District Court on Wednesday and sentenced to two years imprisonment, of which one and a half years suspended, for membership cheating and fraud with financial support of SOS Racism in the period from 2008 to 2011.

He must also pay 387.000 NOK as compensation to NAV and endure a confiscation of 560,000 NOK in favor of SOS Racism.

Seven other former employees and former leaders of the organization were sentenced to conditional prison sentences of between one year and six months to 75-day suspended jail. Only two of them could have part of their imprisonment as unconditional.

– We note that the court has largely followed the prosecution’s contention that here large number of cheating happened on membership, courses and with Social Security as well, says prosecutor Hallvard Gardshol Bjørndal the news channel NTB.
