The mushrooms controls are back and the woods are bursting with cloudberries, chanterelles and porcinis  – which for many is the very grandest catch.

– It is primarily the flavor that makes it so special. It’s big, fleshy and very useful,  Johs. Kolltveit  chairman of the Norwegian fungal and useful plants federation says.

Some years there are hardly any boletus findings. Other years it occurs in large quantities.
– Three years ago was a real porcini-year , and it does not look too bad this year either, says Kolltveit.

Good advice

The combination of a hot early summer and a damp school holiday bode well for mushroom enthusiasts, according to Kolltveit.

– You can just go out and go on a treasure hunt in the forest, he said.
Kolltveit recommends beginners to accompany more experienced mushroom gatherers in order to learn how to find mushrooms and learning which mushrooms you should stay away from.

– The most important advice I can give is to never put mushrooms you do not know into the put, he says.

Kolltveit recommend that you learn to recognise  the appearance of 4-5 edible mushrooms  and initially stick to them. Boletuses, cloudberries and chanterelles are easy and safe choices, he said.
