A new website will give everyone access to local numbers on how many people are poor, who they are and who is in danger of being poor at various locations in Norway.
It is the Children, Youth and Family Affairs (Bufdir) which will next week launch a tool to help local governments fight poverty locally.
– Here, everyone can keep track of developments in their own municipality, compare their own municipality with similar municipalities, compare counties and so on. It is the first time child poverty figures are put in such a context, says Director Mari Trommald in Bufdir to news agency NTB.
The latest figures show that around 92,000 children are living in households which are by Norwegian definition, poor. There is broad political agreement that this costs individuals and communities much, and that something must be done.
A challenge at municipal and county levels may be to determine the cause of their specific problems, as these can vary greatly.
The indicators for child poverty is the topic for the Bufdir arrangement under the Arendalsuka on Wednesday, “Prosperity paradox – Child poverty in Norway.”
