Heavy and steady downpours of rain is expected in the eastern part of the country

Monday, rainfall is expected in large parts of Eastern Norway, according to the Meteorological Institute.

 

The notification applies to the counties Vestfold, Østfold, Buskerud, Oslo, Akershus and Hedmark.

As of early Monday morning, large amounts of precipitation are expected, which poses a risk of overflows in densely populated areas, localized flooding and river bank breeches can be expected. In addition, the mud and landslide danger increases where heavy rain shall fall.

The rain will last through Monday afternoon, with local variations. Some places can reach as much as 25 millimeters of rainfall per hour.

Friday and Saturday, southern and eastern Norway was hit by heavy rain showers, which led to flooded roads and basements in Kristiansand.
