Air pollution is high in Oslo, Lillestrom, Sarpsborg and Fredrikstad. Children with respiratory diseases such as asthma should stay outside as little as possible, and people are encouraged to think carefully before using their cars.
Cold dry weather with little wind combined with much wood heating, diesel exhaust and airborne dust is probably the reason for the high pollution values.
– It is expected that pollution levels will remain high as long as we have the weather situation we have now. It is expected that pollution will decrease when the wind picks up agin, a somewhat windy Tuesday night has been forecast,  the municipalities Fredrikstad, Sarpsborg and Moss write in a joint press release.

In the three Østfold towns there will be high pollution levels through Monday night. The municipalities are asking their citizens to do their part to help in reducing the pollution. Some measures may be to leave your car, travel outside of rush hour or ride in other people’s cars. A home office is also proposed. The people are also asked to use electrical heating systems and not using any fireplaces for heating until the situation has changed.
