Immigrant unemployment leave falls a bit

The unemployment rate for immigrants is now 5.9 percent. For the rest of the population, unemployment is 1.7 percent.

 

Gross unemployment decreased by 0.3 percentage points for the population excluding immigrants from the third quarter last year to the same quarter this year. However, the decline was 0.9 percentage points for immigrants. It shows Statistics Norway’s (SSB) figures for the third quarter of this year.

Immigrant men had a greater decline in unemployment than women. For immigrant men, unemployment is now 5.2 percent, while it is 6.8 percent for women. The decline in unemployment was highest among immigrants from EU countries from eastern Europe.

Immigrants from Africa have the highest unemployment rate of 10.6 percent, followed by immigrants from Asia by 6.8 percent.

Among those who are Norwegian born with immigrant parents in the age group 15 to 29, unemployment was 3.4 percent, which is the same as last year. For the population excluding immigrants in the same age group, unemployment was 2.2 percent. The corresponding figure for immigrants was 6 percent.
