Everybody, including Iran, has  to work together to combat extremism,   the Iranian Foreign Minister stated after a meeting with his colleague, Børge Brende in Oslo on Monday morning.

– We believe that not only Iran but the entire international community has to join together to fight this threat. Everyone has to cooperate on this,  Iranian Foreign Minister Mohamad Javad Zarif says.
Zarif visits Norway Monday and Tuesday for political talks and to attend the Oslo Forum. Bilateral issues, the conflict in Syria and other relevant regional and international issues, are among the topics being discussed.

After Zarif and Brende’s meeting on Monday morning, they are to  attend a seminar organized by PRIO about the relationship between the two countries later on. Zarif will also meet Prime Minister Erna Solberg (H) during his visit in Oslo.

After meeting with his Norwegian counterpart,  Zarif was clear on what he thinks is the key to a peaceful solution to the civil war-torn Syria where IS still controls important areas.
– We have to work together to facilitate a future for Syria. We must realize that there is no military solution. What we need is a political solution in Syria, says Zarif.
– We have said this for three years without anything happening. Now it’s time to move forward, he adds.
After the agreement on Iran’s nuclear program, which meant that many of the international sanctions against the country were lifted in winter, Brende and Zarif agreed that there are great opportunities for cooperation for the two countries in both the maritime sector and the oil sector.
