The situation in Iraq is worse than before, says the Swedish Migration Board. This means that more Iraqi asylum seekers can remain in Sweden.
– The human rights situation has deteriorated, and we see a higher risk situation in Iraq today than we did two years ago, says Fredrik Beijer from the Migration Board to Sweden’s Radio.
During 2015 and so far in 2016 22,000 Iraqis gave applied for asylum in Sweden.
After the Swedish agency’s assessment, today there is open conflict in six provinces in Iraq, including Baghdad.
Beijer can not respond directly to the assessment meaning that more Iraqis will get a residence permit, but the decision may mean that some of those who have been rejected can get a new asylum assessment.
