Justice Minister promises quick action against youth gangs in Oslo

The Oslo Police are concerned about the lack of measures to get young people out of gangs.Following a meeting with the police on Wednesday, Justice Minister Wara promised quick action.

 

The head of the Street Patrols (Gatepatruljen) at the Grønland Police Station, Jan Erik Bresil,said that he doesn’t have effective measures to get the 15, 16 and 17-year-olds out of the criminal environment to NRK news.

‘’In the past we were faced with threats of armed robbery or similar. Now we find that they are transferred to child welfare after only a couple of hours and walk freely on the street again,” Bresil told NRK.

Furthermore, Bresil said that the measures must come quickly.

‘’I think it’s urgent. We are seeing a development in our environments that we don’t like,’’ said Bresil to NRK.

On Wednesday, Attorney General, Tor Mikkel Wara  met with the police minister in Oslo.

“I’ve been in contact with the police today, and I totally agree,” Wara told NRK.

In a meeting, Wara will ask the police for suggestions on how the problems can be solved.Wara promised that measures will come quickly, according to NRK.

“And then it’s up to me when I have all the tools and options on the table, to choose what I believe is the right thing to do’’, he told NRK news.
