King Harald visited Skiptvet municipality in Østfold on Thursday. Lindormen Kindergarten children had made their own throne for the king and he was shown demonstrations in karate, and motorcycle racing.
He also saw a play the children had made before moving on to the Town Hall.
In the fine weather outside the town hall, the 19-year-old Norwegian champion, Ingveig Håkonsen, showed his skills in motorcycle trials, and karate practitioner, Sara Marie Borge, demonstrated the martial art.
Missing 50 municipalities
The king also received local honey as a gift, but could respond decisively that he himself owns beekeeping equipment.
He and Queen Sonja have over the years visited a number of the country’s municipalities and now have just over 50 municipalities left before they have visited everyone said communication manager, Sven Gj. Gjeruldsen, to NTB news.
On Thursday afternoon, King Harald then travelled to Marker municipality where he visited the Kanal Museum in Ørje. He also got an insight into the steamship environment with a visit to DS Turisten.
Local specialties
The environment and climate were central elements during the King’s visit, and he was informed, among other things, of the work on the water quality in the Halden watercourse. The King pointed out that interest in the environment is not new. When he followed his father, King Olav, on trips around the country 30 years ago, the environment was already on the agenda then he said.
During the visit, the king was served a number of local specialties, including bjørk juice, local chicken meatballs, and “fløtærkæller” chocolate men from Halden.
There was also musical entertainment from the artist Trygve Skaug.
