Large attendance at the funeral of stabbing victim Said (28)

Between 200 and 300 relatives and friends met on Thursday at the funeral of stabbing victim,Said Bassam Chataya (28),in Bergen.

Last Friday, 28 year-old Said Bassam Chataya was stabbed at the Circle K station at Danmarks plass in Bergen.He died shortly afterwards of the injuries he was inflicted.

Chataya was buried on Thursday,and a couple of hundred people met up for a final goodbye to the fun-loving 28 year-old wrote Bergensavisen newspaper.

‘’It’s a sad and heavy day’’ said Mohammad Azeem to the newspaper.

He has been imam in Bergen mosque for 22 years, and hasnot experienced such a large attendance during a funeral before this.He emphasised that we must now prevent something similar from happening again.

“We must lead the good path so that we can feel safe” he said, and that the mosque works purposefully with young people.

Chataya is buried in the upper part of the Loddefjord cemetery.

On Monday,three men were detained for four weeks in connection with the murder,in line with the police’s petition.Everyone must sit in partial isolation for the entire period.The basis for imprisonment is the danger of evidence corruption.

One of the three, the 21 year-old cousin of the victim,is charged with the murder.The other two are charged with involvement in the act of violence, but not for the murder.
