A man from Sunnmøre has been sentenced to 215 hours of community service for having stored 281,554 photographs and 70 films showing sexual abuse of children.
According to the newspaper Sunnmørsposten the man confessed to the crime in police interrogations in December 2013, and the police’s slow investigation of the case gave the man a penalty reduction. The photographs and films were downloaded over a period in time in 1999 and parts of it showed severe sexual offenses against very young children.
The Prosecutor Cathrin Remøy asked for a sentence of imprisonment for one year and four months, in which six months of the sentence were to be suspended, with a probation period of two years. Because of special circumstances surrounding the man’s mental health, according to the court, however, the court thinks it is acceptable that he will be sentenced to 215 hours of community service instead.
The man accepted the verdict, which was made in Sunnmøre District Court.
