A 22-year-old man must meet in Oslo District Court after having been charged with having sent syringes and threatening letters to, among others, the royal family and Prime Minister Erna Solberg.
According to the indictment, the 22-year-old claimed in his letters that he was in league with Anders Behring Breivik, and that he had plans to ‘bomb Norway.’ In a letter to the royal family he has allegedly threatened to abduct family members.
In several of the envelopes, syringes of W content – a mixture of water and flour – situated so that the recipient could easily stick in the syringe – were found.
Recipients were told that the one who receives the syringe will die and that the syringe could make the recipient horny.
The man denies culpability. His lawyer, Erlend Liaklev Andersen, believes there are circumstances that make the issue less serious than it might appear.
“The indictment is, on paper, serious, but when one looks at the history and underlying facts, then it becomes not such a serious matter,” he said.
The trial starts in Oslo District Court Monday. The government has five days until the main proceedings in the case.
