216 motorists have been given fines over the past two months for riding with studded tires. Mobile Police believe it is disturbing and a bad way to try saving money.
The radio channel P4 has obtained figures from the Statens innkrevingssentral.
The commander of the Mobile Police, Runar Karlsen, is concerned and points to that NAF has done studies showing that studded or non-studded winter tires have a longer braking distance than summer tires in summer conditions.
– In addition, the vehicle is more unstable in swings. This means that for example, in a right turn it may lose traction and cause collisions, or in a left turn it can drive out of the road, he explains.
He believes economic reasons may be one reason why some have not changed tires.
