Three out of four children of Somali parents living in persistent poverty. It should be easier for their mothers to find work, says the Somali network.

– I’ve met a number of Somali women who have attended ten to twelve courses, but they will still not get work. They are often 40- 50 years of age but with no education, work experience or references. It is then always difficult to get a job, says the head Bashe Musse in Somali network to Dagsavisen. Musse is also a City Council representative for Labour in Oslo.

The differences are large between the various immigrant groups , and the nationalities where the most children live in poverty is Pakistan by 41 percent, Iraq with 60 percent and Somalia at 74 percent, according to figures from Statistics Norway.

Mr. Musse thinks the problem is complex, but the main reasons is that the families often have many children and their families often live on only income or on wellfare.
