Recent figures show that the number of displaced people has increased by 10 percent only during 2015 – The refugees are affected by the global Waivers of Liability, says Secretary-General Jan Egeland in NRC.

65 million people, more than three times the population of Scandinavia, are currently on the run.

‘Governments around the world are characterized by paralysis and disclaimer’, says Egeland.

He points out that NRC has witnessed a negative trend in terms of protection of refugees’ rights in a number of countries.

‘Vulnerable displaced people have equal need of refugee law protection today as when the Europeans were displaced after World War II and established the Refugee Convention. Yet, we see that the violations of refugee rights are spreading like an epidemic worldwide, including in Europe’, said Egeland in a press statement.
