The Nordic Council will strengthen asylum rights

With nine specific measures, the Nordic Council will improve the situation of unaccompanied minors seeking asylum.

Nordic Council committee for welfare will partly have the waiting time for the proceedings and give the young asylum seekers an independent age assessment. In addition, proposed new procedures for safe expulsion.

Meanwhile, the Committee will ensure that no unaccompanied asylum seekers expelled unless they received the safety of family members or other network that is willing and able to accept them.

– We have a humanistic heritage and tradition in Scandinavia as it is worth taking is to “take care”, especially when there are challenges internationally.

We must see the individual where others see refugee flows.

We must ensure legal protection where others choose quick solutions.

We need to think long term where other close their borders, said committee spokesman Bengt Morten Wenstøb from Norway.

The Commission also requires that the Convention should be respected in all Nordic countries.
